The Benefits of Giving Back to Your Community Through Participation in Orange County Projects

The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program is a benefit grant provided by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Its primary goal is to develop viable urban communities and provide services primarily to low-income citizens and their neighborhoods. The Credit Union encourages all members to actively participate in community activities through paid volunteer hours. In accordance with Government in the Sunshine laws, the Orange County Government must make available, upon request, all information that is not considered a threat to the safety of law enforcement agencies and personnel. The Orange County CDGB Program achieves its goals by carrying out eligible activities, such as capital improvements, affordable housing development, and public services. Colleen Jones, a former Irvine resident, noted that for those leaving the traditional workforce for a variety of reasons, such as caring for children or elderly family members, volunteering offers a way to stay connected with other adults, learn and apply skills, and make a positive difference in their communities. Through this program, Orange County can implement activities such as rental housing rehabilitation, tenant-based rental assistance, and rental housing activities undertaken by Community Housing Development Organizations (CHDO).Janelle Daniels, of Tustin, a stay-at-home mom, has been involved in a wide range of volunteer projects. These range from restoration projects in Upper Back Bay, in Newport Beach, to holiday activities and summer camps for foster children through Orange County Social Services.

The City of Irvine and the Orange County Fire Authority want to remind you to keep an eye on pool safety. This work provides stability, opportunities, and promotes well-being in California communities. Mark Wegener, director of Balance, a physical therapy and wellness center in Mission Viejo, regularly participates in free screening events, talks and other volunteer activities.
